Short Description

DESCRIPTION:
• In Angry Chipmunk, get a maniacal collection of enraged rodents. Hear fierce repetitive chirps and visceral trills so close they can’t help but startle. Hear frantic scuttling movement and barks that sound like villainous laughter when pitched down.
• This library offers you a collection of sounds from a rodent with loads of character. Northern Maine has the highest density of angry chipmunks of any place I have recorded. Chipmunks are incredibly territorial and they really did not like me recording near their trees. They even chewed through some of my cables to show their displeasure! But it was worth it to hear their scrappy vocalizations up close. I hope you enjoy them too. Thanks for listening.

RECORDING STORIES AND TIPS:
• Chipmunks and other rodents are much more active in coniferous groves. They love the nuts dropped by the white pine trees in Maine.
• That said, be careful when leaving drop rigs in coniferous groves. Plan to lose some cables to chipmunks and mice that don’t like you mounting microphones in their neck of the woods. I’ve had them gnaw on cables, dry bags, and even my microphone blimp! Luckily the rain stopped before they did their gnawing, so it didn’t ruin the recordings!
• When doing long cable runs in coniferous groves, try using garden stakes to elevate the cable so that it isn’t running along the ground. Getting the cable off the ground 30 centimeters or so tends to discourage gnawing. This can also be useful so you don’t get sticky sap all over your cables.
• Chipmunks love to startle you. Many a time, I was listening to a peaceful forest soundscape when one decided to slowly creep out on a branch right near my mics and then suddenly blast my ears with a barks, trills, and screams. Scares me half to death every time. The joys of field recording :)
